Fluconazole (Diflucan) is an antifungal medication that is used to treat a variety of fungal infections. Thrush is an infection which can occur without sexual contact, so it is not a sexually transmitted disease. However, the infection can be passed on during sex, so it is recommended that you should not have sex until the infection has cleared up.
If you regularly suffer from thrush, then it's advisable that both you and your partner have thrush treatment at the same time.
Taking too much can make you unwell, so contact your doctor or nearest hospital immediately if you take more than you should.
As with any medicine, there are side effects. Although a serious allergic reaction to fluconazole is rare. Common side effects (occurring in one in ten patients) include nausea, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, wind, rash and headache. However, these side effects are usually mild and don't tend to last long. If symptoms persist, or are particularly severe, contact your doctor.

Side Effects
Common fluconazole side effects include nausea, headache, and stomach pain. Diarrhea is also possible. Mild side effects tend to resolve on their own or go away when you finish your treatment course. Researchers in New Jersey have developed a treatment that can prevent the condition from getting worse.
The treatment, known as Candida albicans, is a type of fungus that lives on the vaginal tissues, causing the vagina to dry out. This is common and can be cured with antifungal medication such as Diflucan and.
“It’s an interesting, if not very successful, treatment for vulvovaginal candidiasis,” said, a professor at the New Jersey School of Public Health.
“I have heard there’s a lot of success out there with antifungal therapy. But the research is not conclusive.”
The fungus can live for up to 15 years in the vagina. It can survive in warm, moist environments, but it doesn’t usually cause vaginal dryness.
“There’s not a lot of treatment options,” Dr. Michael M. Hirsch, a UTologist at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, said.
“It’s not an option that’s going to cure the disease.”
The researchers used the same technique as those used in the medical literature. They used a needle to draw a thin line from a tissue sample, and a sterile tissue syringe was inserted into the vagina. After removing the needle from the syringe, the vaginal tissue was carefully digested.
“To help prevent Candida from growing in the vagina, a thin layer of tissue from the vaginal tissue was gently placed into the vagina,” Dr. M. Hirsch said.
The treatment was based on a randomized, controlled study in the. The researchers found that it improved symptoms in the affected area.
“It also helped the vaginal tissue, which is the main barrier to Candida,” Dr.
